The Tar Heels are likely heading to the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte on Dec. 27, according to the News and Observer.
Both UNC and officials for the Meineke Car Care Bowl are denying the report.
Pittsburgh would be the anticipated opponent, according to the N&O.
The Tar Heels last bowl game was in 2004. They played in what was then called the Continental Tire Bowl in Charlotte.
Ironically, I examined the possibilities of "Tire Bowl or Bust" prior to the season. For Tar Heel fans, the Meineke Car Care Bowl would be somewhat of a disappointment as the Chik-fil-a Bowl was feasible back in mid-November.
Again, this is not official, but the location of the Meineke Car Care Bowl would be prime for Carolina fans.

This is such crap. Clemson getting the Gator means that everyone slides down a bowl and we then get relegated to the Car Care. We should go Music City or Tangerine, (and i think there is a huge divide between Tangerine (Champs sports/Music City and Car Care.
Im waiting for someone to tell me why in the hell Clemson deserves Gator over FSU, UNC or VT (assuming they lose). It just makes no sense, at all.
It's all about money. The Car Care peeps are thrilled if they get UNC because of the local Carolina population.
Nothing is for certain, yet, but I still think Carolina should cheer for BC to lose.
Wouldn't that just put BC in the Music City? Apparently, the loser of the ACCCG cant fall past Nashville. I figure that if VT loses and got selected to the Tangerine, then Music City would take UNC because FSU went there last year. I know that's a stretch, but at least its a shot.
People keep talking about the Clemson fan base and money and all that jazz. How does the Gator figure to make more money off of Clemson then off of FSU? Charlotte is equidistant from Chapel Hill and from Clemson, so the Car Care would be fine with either school.
My limted understanding (haven't had much time to look into this due to finals) is that the Heels can go to any bowl except the Orange bowl. Since they are within one conference win of the top teams (5-3) record, they can be selected for any bowl. Unfortunately, they didn't finish very strong so their attractiveness has faded. BC traditionally gets screwed on bowl selections, and that pattern could continue. We'll have to see though. I doubt UNC will end up anywhere besides Charlotte.
No, you are correct in that UNC is eligible for every bowl because their 4-4 record is within 1 game of the 5-3 record sported by BC and other top teams. The catch is its stated that BC the ACCCG loser cant go further down then Music City, even though BC is maybe the least attractive team as far as bowls are concerned.
This in turn bumps UNC down to Charlotte assuming champs goes with FSU in the event of a VT win.
Its a screwy system that is about to reward the second biggest bust of the season (Georgia being 1st) a top teir bowl.
Gotcha. Well, UNC should have taken care of business. I view the season almost as a failure due to the situation the Heels were in at the beginning of November, but such is life.
